His adventures with technology

Ingenuity born of limited resources

Born in Havana, Cuba, Coro fell in love with technology and electronics early. At just 15, he assembled one of the first homemade satellite dishes in the country — built from parts of an old Soviet radio, a coffee can and a mosquito net — and used it to watch television channels forbidden to ordinary Cubans. That window to the outside world transformed his life. He became one of the first people on the island with access to e-mail and personal computers, and eventually fled Cuba at age 18.

He arrived in the U.S. with little formal education and barely able to speak English — but that didn't stop him. Freedom let him build a career on self-taught technology and communication skills. He started a technology consulting business that led him toCheck Point Software and the Space Telescope Science Institute, where the Hubble Space Telescope is managed. In 2004 he joinedCisco Systems in California, consulting for major clients and presenting at key executive briefings on their behalf.

Coro's mission is to empower Latinos to embrace technology — convinced that adopting and applying this skill set will propel the Hispanic community to success.

Coro's 5 Es

A framework for success

Core principles Coro developed through his work with the Hispanic community — a framework for thriving in today's technology-driven world.

1

Educate

Coro believes in education's transformational power for the Hispanic community — and that technology education needs to be front and center. With the right skills, information and confidence, people can achieve goals that once felt out of reach.

2

Empower

Ending technological helplessness by closing the mental divide once and for all — not the digital divide everyone talks about, but the belief that one can't learn, adapt and succeed in a digitally connected world.

3

Engage

Community is at the heart of Coro's work. You have to be hands-on — meet people where they are, motivate them, and help them address their real concerns on the path to a successful future.

4

Employ

Learning to apply technology should ultimately come to fruition through employment or business ownership. Endless opportunities can be leveraged to succeed.

5

Excel

Practice, practice, practice. Only by committing to learning do we triumph. From humble beginnings, Coro has seen countless people make their dreams come true — and now helps others discover the best version of themselves.
